About Ben Gehring

Welcome to Ben's Blog!

Who is Ben Gehring?

I, Ben, think I am an average person. I work hard to be as smart as possible, and learn more every day. I work hard so that I can improve the lives of my family.

Why are you making a blog, then?

That's a good question. I am making a blog because I think that I, and people like me, are under represented in our society. I think that there is a large "silent majority" that either doesn't get noticed, or gets ridiculed when they do get noticed. While I think that people like me are just as opinionated as I am, I think that I am unique in that I am assertive with my views. I want people to hear my views because I want to engage people intellectually and learn from others, and at the same time influence other people with my views.

So you want to force your views on others?!

Uh, no. Not force my views on other people; influence other people.

What if I sat and listened to a person talk about a point of view that was in opposition to mine. Then, after they were finished, I changed my point of view and agreed with them. Would this be acceptable? Of course it would! Well, this is me sitting down and speaking my mind. I am not forcing anyone to read my website, but I would like it if they did. If what I say changes your point of view, then I am pleased. If I am not able to persuade you, then we fight to the death!! Not really! If I can't persuade you, then we just move on.

Why do you want me to listen to your views?

There are two basic reasons that I want people to listen to my views.

First, I want people that think like me to be able to find a place they can relate to. A place that, while comforting, challenges people to develop and expound on the views that they already have.

The second reason I want people to listen to my views is because I want to encourage debate. That is debate, not fighting, not threatening, and not anger; well, maybe a little anger, just not violent anger. Debate may encompass passion, frustration, and argumentative rhetoric. However, at the end of the day we should be civil to each other. We are each human. Either one of us may believe that the views that the other possesses are detrimental to our country, our freedom, or the whole of humanity, but that in no way excuses unwarranted violence.
